Creating a Scrolling Image with PowerPoint

You can also use PowerPoint as a basic layering and image editing tool, particularly to create long scrolling images.

The Need for Scrolling Images

Do you have a multi-page script that learners need to read from? How about an SOP or job aide for decision-making? Getting these documents loaded into Bright as an image can present a challenge, but PowerPoint or Google Slides can make it simple.

Creating Your Scrolling Image

  1. To get started, you may want to change the size of your slide from the traditional 8x11. To do this, open the 'Design' dropdown in PPT and choose the 'Slide Size' icon. Select 'Custom Slide Size.'

  2. A prompt will popup in which you can change the width and height of the slide size. Set the Width to 20 inches to make the slide the standard 1920 px size. For the height, we've seen customers create slides as long as 50 inches in order to provide a long scrolling experience for learner prompts. Be mindful PowerPoint maxes at 56 inches long. If you set it longer, you will have errors when you attempt to export/save as a PNG.

  3. This is what your slide will look like when you're done changing the slide size. You can edit the slide like normal from there.

Exporting Images from PowerPoint

  1. When you're ready to export the image, when you get to the Save prompt, select 'JPEG' or 'PNG' from the dropdown list instead of the typical PPTX or PDF selections.

  2. After this PPT will ask whether to save a single slide or all slides in your file. In most cases, you can pick 'Just This One' to save the entire slide as a single, compressed image file ready for drag and drop into Bright!

Save As Picture

One more quick option is to export just a selection as an image. This is a great trick for grabbing smaller images (as opposed to the kind of scrolling images noted above).
  1. To do this, simply select all the slide components you want to be included in the image file and 'Right Click' anywhere on one of the components. Select 'Save as Picture' and then select the destination where you'd like to save the picture file. You can drag and drop into Bright moments from there!
